so far, sandy has claimed 113 lives here in the u.s. utility companies still working to restore power to just under 2 million customers. gas lines are still long, but both new york governor andrew cuomo and new jersey governor chris christie have promised an end to the shortage this week. the gas shortage won't help the rush to get back to work and school. it's the first day of classes in new york since sandy. this morning the subway system is running about 80% of normal service. the new york transit agency says it's several weeks away from full restoration, but it's running emergency bus services today. if you're running north on amtrak, service will be limited between washington, new york, and boston. that's because crews are still repairing the damage caused by sandy. amtrak is telling passengers to make reservations on phone or online to avoid sold out lines at ticket counters. >>> the crane dangling near a luxury high rise has been fastened to the side of the building. so it is now safe to walk under it. those living in buildings h
